What I Didn’t Like:
- I don’t like the title. I know it’s supposed to be a cute play on a common phrase, but I didn’t think it worked. That doesn’t affect my rating, by the way, just mentioning it. Also, I’m glad I didn’t let that keep me from reading this one.
- The general feeling from a lot of the adults in Marv’s life is that he’s being silly with his alien obsession. That bugged me. I actually think what the kid said was happening was MORE believable than the real explanation.
- In fact, the adults in this book seem wildly unconcerned with how their kids are acting/living. That’s common in middle grade adventure stories, but it’s still noticeable and irritating in this particular story.
What I Did Like:
- Solid grasp of Marvin’s character right away, which is excellent in any book and important for this age range. By the end of the first chapter, you already know what to expect from him and you like him.
- The action is quick and keeps your interest. Plus the chapters are short, which paces you nicely through the book.
- The kids have good banter and there is some humor tossed around, which keeps the story fresh. Even when we’re dealing with heavy action scenes, you might find a reason to smile or laugh.
Who Should Read This One:
- Middle grade readers who like action and science fiction elements!
My Rating: 4 Stars
- An overall cute MG Sci Fi story that delivers for the intended audience.
