2025 Book Review: They All Died Screaming

by Kristopher Triana

A Horror, 2020 by Blood Bound Books, 228 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Content Warnings:This book is splatterpunk, a genre that exists explicitly to shock and disgust readers. Because of this, it crosses every and any lines you may have. Proceed with caution. In fact, if you don’t think you have trigger warnings splatterpunk would prove you wrong.
  • Ok the food porn stuff was gross. Like super gross. The first time was cringe, then it just got worse. I could’ve skipped that. Then again, that’s the point.
  • There are still unanswered questions at the end.

What I Did Like:

  • The story starts with a GREAT opening line and just keeps going from there. It makes no apologies for being a DARK adult story and just leans into it on every page and in every interaction. You have to give it props for that.
  • The story and characters are really well written. Despite things that will absolutely disgust you (which is the point) happening on practically every page you find yourself invested in the characters and their storylines.
  • The details tossed in about how the new stations and political parties are handling the pandemic are very well done. It’s all in the background, but it creeps into the minds of the characters (like it really would) and you can see the effect it has on their actions.
  • Well represented Stockholm syndrome. This isn’t presented like a case where the captor falls in love (aka Beauty and the Beast syndrome) but is done in a more realistic, and somehow more terrifying, way.

Who Should Read This One:

  • The point of splatterpunk is to make every single reader cringe, this does that. If you like horror that is gory, dark, and full of human depravity, this is actually a perfect example of your genre in a book.

My Rating: 3 Stars

  • Absolutely the most disgusting book I have ever read, which for splatterpunk is actually a compliment. It’s a niche genre but this is probably the most perfect example of that genre I’ve ever seen. Recommended for the right reader … and ONLY that reader.
