A Horror Anthology, 2021 by Twisted Tree Press, 175 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Not all stories are created equal, of course. Some of the stories in here lack the punch I was looking for, but it’s only 1 or 2.
- I would’ve loved to see the notes about the story appear at the end of each story, instead of at the end of the book. Such a minor thing!
- One story is missing its opening picture. It made me wonder what it would be and why it doesn’t have one.
What I Did Like:
- The stories here are all unique. Even when their premises remind you of something you’ve heard before, the way it unfolds is unique!
- Caryn’s ability to describe something in a poetic way gets to shine in a few of these stories. Specifically the description of the house in Family Time is so well done read it twice just to appreciate it.
- The inclusion of different creatures was fantastic. From cats (one of my favorites in this collection) to imps (another of my favorites) this collection features so many amazing creatures!
- The vibes are wonderful. The collection varies the length and topic of the stories enough to keep you moving. No two back-to-back stories are too alike.
Who Should Read This One:
- Short story fans, this is a GREAT collection. It’s worth a study of how to vary your collections lengths and themes. Excellent!
- Horror fans, this belongs in your collection. The author had captured so many different types of horror tropes here, there’s something to please everyone.
My Rating: 5 Stars
- Whether you’re already a horror fan or just like short stories and want to try horror, this collection is top notch!
