What I Didn’t Like:
- As is common with a very long series following a character, this gets repetitive. You’ve heard this story a few times by now and you keep wondering what new things are going to be added. In the beginning, the series felt unique and intriguing. Now it’s fallen victim to its own pacing and expectations. The newness is wearing off.
- Sookie. I’m sure she was always vapid, talking too much about clothes and appearances. I don’t know why it hit me harder in this book, but it did. She got under my skin, which made it difficult to enjoy the story.
- Another cliffhanger? Ok, I mean we get a few answers but there’s a lot left up in the air. It’ll drive you into the next book, for sure.
What I Did Like:
- Eric. I’m still a fan of the aged vampire. I think his story is fascinating and you could likely spend an entire series exploring the adventures he’s been on for the last thousand years or so. Everytime he pops onto the scene you can expect to be in for a treat. He’s a solid character.
- Witchcraft. This made an appearance in a previous book or two, but I still liked the way this was handled. It reads as realistic and doesn’t fall back on stereotypes.
- Quinn. Another solid character confident in their supernatural ability and not at all wishing they were “normal”. He could easily be a favorite if he’s around for another book or two for me to really get used to him.
Who Should Read This One:
- At this point in the series I’d say you have to be a fan of the characters and the series as a whole to enjoy this particular book.
