A Mystery/Thriller, 2020 by William Morrow, 319 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Content Warning: self harm (specifically cutting). It’s handled strangely too, almost as if it was thrown in offhand for a sort of gimmick, which I hate.
- There’s a LOT of POV characters. Granted, they all tell you their roll right from the jump, but it’s a lot to remember.
- Too many coincidences. I can’t mention any (spoilers) but there’s a lot of them. Together they’re a bit much, making the story even more unbelievable.
What I Did Like:
- The set up is intriguing. You know you’re getting into a mystery story but you feel like you’re starting in a “typical” wedding book with only the constant reminder of that first chapter niggling in the back of your brain. That means you’re on guard for anything out of the ordinary right away. That makes this a fun read.
- The twists kept you on your toes, for sure. The storyline pops back and forth between then and now, which is always fun. It builds that anticipation as you know your timelines are drawing closer and closer together.
- The ending is exactly the sort I like! Not all the questions are answered but you know enough to be satisfied.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of multi-POV storylines that fold back on themselves.
