by James Patterson and Robinson Wells
YA Science Fiction, 2019 by Arrow, 352 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- There’s a sense of “too much” from the events of this one. Sort of an “everything that can go wrong” vibe. That’s intentional, but take it as a content warning if you don’t like that.
- There are some minor characters who are in the beginning, disappear for a while, and then pop back in. This can make it hard to remember who they are or how they relate to the story.
- Don’t get confused because of what Patterson is known for, this is a YA science fiction story.
What I Did Like:
- Right away you’re dropped into a situation where strange things are happening. You realize it’s strange and it really sets the tone well for the book.
- Maggie is a great character. Good voice, good background, and a heavy dose of intelligence to back her up.
- The story moves fast. You don’t have any time to lose interest or get bored, too much is happening for that. There’s a lot of events and action packed into this one.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of other dystopian style yet modern Scifi.
- Readers who like fast moving books and want to try a sort of modern dystopian, this one is well done.
