A Horror, Independently Published in 2012, 82 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Content Warning: rape, pedophilia, and generally awful treatment of women as tools for pleasure (it’s written to be awful not to be condoned but is still hard to read). If it wasn’t for the excessive amount of horrific treatment of other humans, it would be hard to classify this as horror.
- Not wholly original. The idea of a family destroyed and a man seeking revenge has obviously been done before.
- Some grammatical (or perhaps typographical) errors. Not many and easy to ignore.
What I Did Like:
- The flashback scene delivered early in the book was a good tool. It helped to back up the main character’s motivation early on by making his pain real.
- For the most part Jamus is a decent guy. It’s clear he remembers what he’s been through and his motives stay clear. I’m ignoring THAT ONE ACT that goes against his nature though.
- The end works to set up for what I assume will be the content of the second book quite nicely. It also serves as a way to show me the sequel may actually be better, as I like this main character more.
Who Should Read This One:
- Readers who are not easily offended by gore and death who appreciate a good revenge story.
