What I Didn’t Like:
- The rich girl is going to makeover and fix the poor girl is a trope that has been done before and it isn’t my favorite.
- Will and Hannah’s relationship is weird from the drop. Something about them feels awkward and forced.
- When the “before” chapters drop off the pacing changes. You feel like you’re repeating things and chasing your tail. It matches what the character is feeling, but it is still cumbersome.
What I Did Like:
- Beautiful descriptions. From emotions to people and places, these descriptions are practically perfect. I first noticed it when she was describing the empty bookshop and books but then I noticed it again and again. The language choices are just impeccable.
- The mystery is solid. From page 1 I wanted to know who, how, and when. You spend the entire dual storyline getting closer and closer to that moment and waiting with bated breath for the answers. Plus, you get that “everyone is a suspect” vibe from some parts and that’s always my favorite!
- Hannah is a good character. Her ambition and guilt are both relatable.
Who Should Read This One:
- Mystery/thriller fans. Specifically dual timeline fans with a big catalyst event driving them together.
