2024 Book Review: Change of Tides

by Andrea Perno

YA Science Fiction, Independently Published in 2016, 566 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Definitely read these back to back. The second one starts right in where the first left off with very little backfilling to remind you what was going on.
  • The language feels like it took a step up a level. Of course, the character has been through a lot which often ages people. But when you’re writing YA it’s hard to balance that. Your readers haven’t aged.
  • There are some memory or flashback scenes that come out of nowhere and feel out of place.

What I Did Like:

  • The banter between the characters is great. I love their relationship and the way they so obviously care about each other.
  • As it was in book 1, the science is kept in this one. Of course, we’re taking some liberties, but it works!
  • There’s little spots of mystery, almost, in this one. Things where the reader is wondering what is happening and trying to puzzle it out. That was fun!

Who Should Read This One:

  • If you like big bad guys, moral gray areas, and found family you’ll love this series (but start with book 1)

My Rating: 4 Stars
