A Mystery/Thriller, Independently Published in 2023, 313 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Some grammatical errors. Nothing overly distracting and nothing that changes the meaning. Still, consider it a content warning if you are sensitive to such errors.
- Repeated words or phrases too close together, making for writing that isn’t exactly pleasant to read. There are a lot of spots where it feels clunky or cumbersome.
- The police procedures aren’t exactly by the book. There’s a lot of liberty taken with what they would do and allow in a situation.
What I Did Like:
- The mystery is captivating and thrilling. You find yourself trying to figure it out ahead of the main character and work out how to best get him out of danger.
- The friend group is well written. They seemed to come alive when they interacted with each other, which gave the story another level of plausibility.
- Action scenes are well written. They definitely get your blood pumping and make it easy to picture what’s happening. Plus, there’s some creative ideas of making weapons out of regular objects that play out well in the story.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of dangerous and action driven thrillers who aren’t sensitive to grammatical errors.
My Rating: 2 Stars
- This would easily be a 4 star book with another editing pass to tighten up the clunky prose and fix the grammatical errors.
