What I Didn’t Like:

This one moves away from vampire politics, spending more time with the shifters and the fairies. While that’s not all bad, I missed the vampire stuff (which is something I never thought I’d say).
Bill is getting tiresome and predictable. As a character, he’s lost his charm for sure.
I wanted more of that intriguing storyline the 8th book ended with. Instead, it barely earned a mention and died off. I’m sure it’s making a comeback in a later book, but I didn’t want to wait for it!

The opening is off to a good start! It feels more like the early books in the series, action-packed and emotional right from the jump.
The extra focus on the fairies wasn’t bad. I liked the details we did get and the danger they brought to the story. Plus, they bring out the best side of Sookie’s creativity with regard to arming herself!
The danger was upped in this one which sort of brought a darker mood to the story. Honestly, I liked that! It made it different enough from the rest and that’s important in a series that’s gone on this long.
The romance line worked. Of course, I’ve been a fan of one particular suitor for a long time so that’s probably a spoiler of sorts. Some scenes were spicier than the early books, so be warned if you aren’t a fan of that.

Obviously, fans of the series will keep going.
If you like vampires, werewolves, telepathy, and slightly spicy scenes in otherwise action packed books … give the series a try!
