A Mystery/Thriller, 2024 by Pamela Dorman Books, 340 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- The “before” chapters threw me off a bit just because of when they’re introduced and the little confusion surrounding the name that is used. Super minor thing, you get used to it quickly.
- There’s a lot of unanswered details: questions about contacts, relationships, and things of that nature. They do add a layer of mystery but could be plot holes if thought about too long.
- Some of the twists are predictable, which can be frustrating for readers who want to be shocked and guessed correctly.
What I Did Like:
- I love the vibe happening here. Right from the first chapter you’re aware of how little information you have and you are sucked in by your desire to learn what you’re missing.
- The layers of secrets to this one give a satisfying reveal a piece at a time, perfect for any mystery lover.
- The romance line works in the way that it has to for this story. That is to say it wouldn’t work in a romance but it works as the side arc in this story, if that makes sense.
Who Should Read This One:
- Mystery fans who want that Ocean’s 11 vibe where there’s more going on than you think and you can be guessing until the end.
