2024 Book Review: The Last House on Needless street

by Catriona Ward

A Horror, 2021 by Viper, 335 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Really weird vibes from the start. It felt like something was missing or being kept from you that you knew was going to be huge but you just couldn’t figure out what it might be.
  • There’s a LOT of varying POVs to keep track of and it’s hard to see how they all come together at first. Stick with it, it’s worth the journey, I’ll say that. There are a few unanswered questions for various POV characters that could be plot holes if analyzed too much.
  • Content warning: child abuse

What I Did Like:

  • The research was obviously well done and is reflected well in the story. No spoilers — but listen to the afterword AFTER the story (don’t listen before) to hear what research I’m referencing here.
  • Unreliable narrator in a very interesting way. The description of the book tells you everything is a lie. That’s not wrong. Yet this is original in the way it is done. That’s all I’m saying (no spoilers).
  • Makes you think … and then think again. This one is going to challenge some of the misconceptions you hold. It will make you think.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Readers who want to be surprised in a book, can handle some weird vibes, and like when their thinking is challenged.

My Rating: 4 Stars
