2024 Book Review: Unfixed

by Amy L Sauder

A Fantasy, Coming November 2024 from Amy L Sauder, 338 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • There are different styles and voices for some chapters. I could see this getting confusing for some readers in the beginning.
  • I wanted more from the descriptions of the acts at the circus. With the exception of Julia, there’s almost a teasing of a description, enough to let you picture it but not fully understand it. I wanted vibrant, detailed descriptions.
  • The ending leaves you hanging. Of course, it warned you it would do that and there IS a sequel … but still I wanted a bit more from this one.

What I Did Like:

  • That cover 😍
  • The opening chapter had a GREAT tone. It sets up the story well and plays into that circus vibe by starting with a narrator letting us in on the start of a show.
  • The mystery is compelling. Having many of your chapters follow our unlikely detective, himself trying to unlock the secrets of the circus, adds an element to the story that gives it depth.
  • Julia’s gift is original in the best way. Truly this alone will spark wonderful conversations about gifts vs curses and keep the interest of many a book club or reader. Even after reading tons of circus style fantasy, that was a new one for me.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Fans of fantasy stories set in circuses. This one is one with elements you haven’t heard but that vibe you crave from the circus. Mysterious, dangerous, and intriguing, this one will captivate you.

My Rating: 4 Stars
