Fiction Recommendation Experts

2024 Book Review: To Be Fair

By Julieta Moss

Romance, 2024 independently published , 308 pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • The time jumps got me in this one. Sometimes I found it to be unclear how much time had passed and I felt like I was constantly missing something and trying to catch up while reading.
  • The age gap between James and Bogdan bothered me, not necessarily the number of years but the actual ages when the relationship began, Bogdan being 16 specifically. It really is something that I believe readers should know ahead of time with a content warning.

What I Did Like:

  • I really enjoyed the details Julieta put into the state of the country during that time. It was well researched and really added a lot to the story to be able to understand what the refugees of that time were going through. Specifically all the rules an issues that came from that.
  • Bogdan was my absolutely favorite character. He was described so well and he is such a relatable character. I loved reading from his point of view and seeing him grow also. I could really feel what he was feeling and so many times wanted to just reach out and hug him.

Who Should Read This One: I would have a hard time recommending this one to romance fans because of the age of the main characters. If you are interested in a 90’s era LGBTQ romance and are okay with the age gap this would be a good one for you.

My Rating: 2 stars
