A Mystery/Thriller, 2022 by Minotaur Books, 357 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Content Warning: drug misuse, death,
- The opening chapters give a weird voice to the MC. I can’t explain exactly what it is, but I felt disconnected from her and had trouble connecting with her even as the story went on.
- Attempts to be original are ridiculous. Things like throwing food into your “mouth hole” and scratching your itchy throat with your tongue (which is not possible). It’s like a kid who overuses a thesaurus and sounds silly.
- I had some of the answers figured out really really early.
What I Did Like:
- I love a mystery with the everyone-could-be-a-suspect vibe. You spend the book collecting clues from implications, memories, or flashes of something. It’s delicious.
- Satisfying conclusion. No spoilers but I can say that. You get enough answers to be satisfied.
- Fast paced. The story moves quickly and keeps your attention. It’s engaging.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of fast paced psychological thrillers who enjoy trying to guess the answers before they’re revealed.
My Rating: 4 Stars
- A little predictable but thrilling
