A Mystery/Thriller, 2020 by Viking, 451 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- This story unfolds slowly and sort of languishes with the characters so that you really get to know them. That’s not necessarily always a negative, but it’s worth noting.
- How calm and relaxed Cal is with the solution to the mystery feel out of character.
- Not everything is answered. You get enough to be satisfied, but you want more. The good news is that there is a second book in this series.
What I Did Like:
- Cal is a great character. Right from the start you like how he handles things and how he deals with issues like the teenager on his property. He’s a solid guy with a good heart and that comes through.
- Perfect setting. The town is warm and lovely, the banter is great, and the speed at which the story unfolds matches the slower feel of life in those parts.
- Satisfying mystery. There are enough answers to bring you satisfaction after you spend the book trying to tie the ideas together yourself.
Who Should Read This One:
- Readers who like contemporary stories but also want a little mystery.
