2024 Book Review: The Searcher

by Tana French

A Mystery/Thriller, 2020 by Viking, 451 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • This story unfolds slowly and sort of languishes with the characters so that you really get to know them. That’s not necessarily always a negative, but it’s worth noting.
  • How calm and relaxed Cal is with the solution to the mystery feel out of character.
  • Not everything is answered. You get enough to be satisfied, but you want more. The good news is that there is a second book in this series.

What I Did Like:

  • Cal is a great character. Right from the start you like how he handles things and how he deals with issues like the teenager on his property. He’s a solid guy with a good heart and that comes through.
  • Perfect setting. The town is warm and lovely, the banter is great, and the speed at which the story unfolds matches the slower feel of life in those parts.
  • Satisfying mystery. There are enough answers to bring you satisfaction after you spend the book trying to tie the ideas together yourself.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Readers who like contemporary stories but also want a little mystery.

My Rating: 4 Stars
