YA Mystery/Thriller, 2021 by Publisher, 400 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Our main character makes a lot of stupid choices that will leave you shouting at her, similar to many horror heroines.
- The characters aren’t all fully developed. Many of them are almost caricatures of real people, one thing emphasized to define them.
- From the premise, I was expecting the social media aspect to drive the story. While it’s a constant presence, it really doesn’t add as much as I expected. A lot of this one happens off the live feeds.
What I Did Like:
- Jess’ voice is captivating right from page 1. You feel like a friend is telling you a story and you can’t put it down.
- Fast chapters pace you through the story at breakneck speed. It’s compulsively readable.
- The ending is satisfying. No spoilers but it worked.
Who Should Read This One:
- YA thriller fans who want something dark, shocking, and quick to read.
