What I Didn’t Like:
- Lots of name dropping of locations, streets, and pop culture references. Some readers have big opinions about this, since it dates the material. Consider it a content warning if that bothers you.
- Lengthy descriptions of characters makes for uneven pacing.
- The use of the 1st person POV narrator without knowing who exactly they were irritated me a bit. It kept pulling me out of the story while I went back and forth to try and figure out what I’d missed, who the narrator was, or why they were suddenly speaking in first person.
What I Did Like:
- Characters are well described so you’ll have no trouble picturing them and getting an idea of who they are.
- The characters’ interactions with each other are the meat of the story. They have decent banter and crazy ideas, which can be fun.
- New York is well described. It’s a fun homage to a setting.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of slow moving books that let you spend time with characters.
- If you’re a fan of New York, this one may appeal to you.
My Rating: 2 Stars
- For me, the pacing was problematic. It felt uneven and that made it hard to focus.
