YA Romance, 2015 by Viking, 417 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Poor little rich girl has to slum it at public high school, insert eye roll here. It made it difficult to connect with her or relate to her at all. There’s a lot of moments where she just feels really out of touch.
- There are sections you skip that would’ve made the story stronger to witness yourself. Confrontations with Mom, conversations you had built up to and then skipped. It’s awkward pacing.
- I like an ending that leaves you wondering but this is a step too far. I needed that one more chapter. I needed to know what happened next.
What I Did Like:
- Contemporary stories are meant to capture a slice of life, this does that in a good way. You are peeking at a moment for this girl, for good and bad.
- Anger in varying forms. So many characters are battling with various forms of anger. This is a good way to look at all of those.
- Friendship. More than romance, which I guess this is technically, this one explores friendship. Being there for each other, supporting each other, and balancing old friends with new.
Who Should Read This One:
- Contemporary fans who want something slower that dances with emotional connections and betrayal.
