What I Didn’t Like:
- Content Warning: assault, discussions of rape
- In the beginning, the voice feels forced and unnatural. I will say it settles into something more like I was expecting.
- There are a few randomly inserted scenes that made NO sense. It didn’t feel like a hint at something or a mystery, but then they don’t really come back to those again. It was a bit weird.
- There’s too much in here that is seemingly random or unconnected. It forces a level of unbelievable when it’s all viewed together. Not only that but a focus on various sexual assaults or crimes is heavy-handed.
What I Did Like:
- The political commentary was interesting and it worked.
- The relationship between Jenny and her sister was believable and well written. They’re also an interesting lesson on talking to someone instead of assuming something.
- The revenge plot played out as promised. It delivered on the satisfaction of retribution.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of darker stories who want something featuring a revenge plot.
My Rating: 2 Stars
- Personally, I think the build up was a bit slow and there was too much tossed into the story that wasn’t needed. I would’ve preferred a tightening of the plot.
