by Carl Hiaasen
A Mystery/Thriller, 2006 by Knopf, 306 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- A lot of characters are introduced in the beginning and it can be confusing. They do come together quickly enough for you to get the hang of it.
- As always the premise is simple but the twists or additions are sort of chaotic and weird. It’s the best part of Hiaasen’s writing but it does take some getting used to.
- The ending didn’t feel as satisfying as I wanted it to, somehow. I think I may just have high expectations for Hiaasen and how his endings can feel so much bigger than you expect. This one felt like a bit of a let down.
What I Did Like:
- A simple, yet chaotic, premise sets off the actions in Florida this time. The connections feel natural, even when they feel odd or make you laugh.
- Good characters. From the telemarketer you hate to the half Seminole you love, this one is packed with characters who are a joy to journey with.
- Hilarious. If you enjoy dark humor and colorful jokes, that is. This one is filled with that traditional Hiaasen brand of humor.
Who Should Read This One:
- If you’re looking for something different, almost weird, but still a solid storyline, this fits the bill.
