by Gypsy-Rose Blanchard
A Nonfiction, 2024 by BenBella Books, 264 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Content warning: abuse, rape, assault, murder, graphic language
- Difficult topic, obviously. From the things you know to the things you haven’t heard, this one tackles a lot of things that are difficult to read about.
- Sometimes the voice is almost too laid back and chummy for what we’re discussing. You’re shocked by these things and she’s discussing them like they’re just a regular day. I almost wanted her to be more serious at times.
What I Did Like:
- The audiobook is narrated by Gypsy-Rose. This helps to connect with her, obviously, plus it means that this is her chance to tell the sensational story so many have told. I would recommend the audiobook.
- The book tackles many of the common questions of the case and doesn’t shy away from anything. If you’ve been wondering at all about the case, this is for you.
- Gypsy makes a case here, whether intentionally or not, for continued education and criminal education. She talks about resources available in prison and how vital those things were to her and are to others.
Who Should Read This One:
- People curious about Gypsy’s case. She tells it as she remembers it here. She is clear that this is not, however, a true crime. This is a memoir.
