2025 Book Review: Picked up Pieces

What I Didn’t Like:

  • There are some cases where a little refresher about the character may have been helpful. If it’s been awhile since you read the previous books, you may find yourself struggling to remember who each person was or (more importantly) what their gift was!
  • Some of the head hopping doubles back on the timeline or gets a little confusing. It’s rare but it does happen.
  • Even after finishing, I still have some unanswered questions. Is there going to be a third book? Not sure!

What I Did Like:

  • The recap to start the book is PERFECT! It’s exactly what I needed as a refresher without giving away too much.
  • I adore the formatting of this one and the breaks from the main POV characters into an almost all-knowing narrator (again). Specifically this one starts by counting DOWN chapters, which made me want to read the entire opening in one sitting to know what we were counting down to! That’s quite an interesting trick.
  • The ending works. No spoilers but I appreciated the way this one played out.
  • The way so many of these characters play with memory is really interesting. I appreciated the way writing notes to oneself was highlighted in this one, even for the ones who can remember.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Circus fiction fans should really start with Unfixed because this series packs a lot of originality into the vibe you want for those stories.
  • Readers who like characters who are morally gray will like this entire cast.

My Rating: 4 Stars

  • A beautiful sequel that does the characters justice.
