What I Didn’t Like:

  • Damsel in distress much? Look, she’s a serial killer. She’s a badass. I’m going to need the male main character to quit thinking she’s going to break. She can take care of herself. Also, I’m going to need her to stop letting him baby her. Get a spine, girl.
  • Instalove, another of my least favorite tropes. This one is paired well with he falls first and touch her and die, which might save it a little. Plus, it’s pretty obviously insta LUST, which is slightly different.
  • The graphic spicy scenes were a bit much. There’s definitely nothing held back and some of it probably could have been, if I’m honest. Definitely watch those content warnings and don’t get into this one if you don’t like SPICE.

What I Did Like:

  • The content warning. It gets a lot of attention because it’s brilliant: it sets the tone of the book while still giving you accurate and necessary warnings about what’s coming. Read it and proceed with caution.
  • The banter is perfection. Between the main characters and between the brothers. Honestly the audiobook also captures it well, which I appreciated.
  • This book manages to capture the darkest from the thriller world (these murders and tortures are next level) with the darkest of the romance world (seriously spicy book, nothing held back). My sister and I are two VERY different readers. We often laugh about whether something is my kind of dark or hers. This book manages to be BOTH at the same time.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Dark romance readers. If you like he fell first, touch her and I’ll kill you, and really spicy bedroom (actually are there any in a bedroom? I don’t think that’s accurate) scenes this one is definitely for you. No easily embarrassed readers though!
  • Dark thriller readers who can handle that romance (or are willing to skip a few scenes). If you like graphic violence, vengeance, and death this is your book. I mean the premise is two serial killers create a game out of murder. No squeamish readers though.

My Rating: 5 Stars

  • This isn’t a perfect book BUT I can’t ignore the fact that it brings THRILLER and ROMANCE together and does both well. That’s a cross-genre I didn’t see coming. I expected it to fall flat for one of those and this doesn’t.
