by James Fuller
A Horror, Independently Published in 2012, 74 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Again, as it was in the first book, a content warning: graphic violence, discussions of sexual assault, and drug use.
- Some grammatical or typographical errors. They are infrequent and easy to figure out.
- This could’ve been attached to the first book, I think. Although it changes characters this almost isn’t enough to be a book on its own. It needed more events, more plot.
- Sophia’s storyline didn’t read as pure revenge for her family, which makes it odd when it’s claimed that’s what it is. Sophia is revenging herself, her treatment. She’s raging and I can’t say I blame her. But it felt like other characters were downplaying it and I hated that.
What I Did Like:
- Sophia makes a much better main character than her father. Her story is more interesting. She’s coming from a place of trauma and that sort of guides her through this book.
- As it was in the first, this is horror as in it’s horrific what people do to each other. I like that there’s no paranormal element. People are the horror.
- The addressing of the drug use was well done. It starts innocently and then quickly grows out of control. I appreciated how that was handled.
Who Should Read This One:
- Readers who like graphic violence and revenge stories.
My Rating: 3 Stars
- My advice is read this immediately after book 1, treating it as a continuous novel. There is a third, which I’m going to dive right into. After this ending, however, I’m confused about where we will go next.
