A Mystery/Thriller, 2024 by Seven Guns Press, 272 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- The sentiment about everyone being glad this kid died is awful. As someone who tries to find the good in everyone, I hated that. Plus, it’s at the start of a book so it really sets the tone negatively.
- This idea is not a new one. We’ve seen this premise before in countless books.
- Pacing is a little slow for a thriller. Of course, not all thrillers need to be fast and the pacing is a tool the author used here. But it’s worth noting.
What I Did Like:
- The opening chapters set the tone for a dark book. The characters don’t feel warm and cozy, the crime feels dark and dangerous. You know right away that you’re not reading a feel good book. But for this story, it works.
- The way the author jumps back and forth in the timeline works! The connections are well done and the time jumps are never confusing.
- The ending is well done. No spoilers but it does add to the story well and is unique for the story we’re telling.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of a thriller that deals with dual timelines and circles around a crime.
My Rating: 4 Stars
- Thriller fans will appreciate how this one plays out.
