What I Didn’t Like:
- It takes until page 67 to get to someone that is foretold on the back cover of the book. This is always frustrating because you already know it’s coming so you spend a lot of time wondering when they’ll get to that. I prefer when they just sort of come out with that stuff quickly, instead of acting like it was supposed to be a sort of plot twist.
- The pacing is odd. There are times when it speeds up and then times when it drags, which is uneven and awkward.
- The ending is one of those perfectly tied up with a bow endings not everyone loves. For this story, explicitly, it felt like a stretch.
What I Did Like:
- Interesting use of higher level vocabulary. Some of it is even used casually, which is my preferred way to introduce it.
- Ike is a good character. You relate to his sort of everyman personality and his desire to be a decent guy.
- The action scenes are well written and intense, on and off the train.
Who Should Read This One:
- Western fans, this is a good representation of the genre.
