2025 Book Review: Ghosts of the Forbidden

by Leanna Renee Hieber

A Paranormal, 2022 by Castle Bridge Media, 144 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • The repetition of some of the main character’s characteristics was unnecessary. We accepted that she was goth and wore black the first time, it didn’t need to keep coming up.
  • Instalove is not my favorite trope. However, I would add the caveat that past life love and instalove are not exactly the same thing.
  • The ending felt a little rushed. We’d built up this incredible atmosphere and then we sort of rushed it on the back half. There was a missed opportunity here to use that vibe for the conclusion.

What I Did Like:

  • The vibe of the house and town was impeccably written. You get haunted house vibes right away and it’s played up just enough to keep things interesting.
  • The characters and their decisions at the end were very mature and well written. Their story and their pull toward each other read realistically, which worked for the story.
  • You do feel a sense of closure with the way things worked out. No spoilers though so that’s all I’ll say.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Fans of stories with a gothic vibe will like this one.

NOTE: This is listed as book 1 on Goodreads. However, it doesn’t read like it NEEDS a sequel. Which is good, since this one came out in 2022 and I see no mention of a second book.

My Rating: 4 Stars
