2025 Book Review: Fork in the Road

by Kerri Davidson and Mark Gelinas

YA Contemporary, Independently Published in 2023, 302 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • The vibe of this one is different from the previous two right from the first chapter, which takes some getting used to. That will only really bother readers who are reading the books back-to-back.
  • I don’t remember Morgan and Josh being so over the top with their behaviors in the previous books. There is a point to it being played up, but they grate on you more in this one.
  • Some of the conversations are a bit forced or stilted. I think it’s an effort to drive some of the themes home, but it does make the conversations a bit awkward at times.

What I Did Like:

  • This book does a masterful job of making you question all the relationships as much as Morgan and Josh do. By the time you reach the end of the weekend, you aren’t even sure which way you want it to go! It’s exactly how Josh and Morgan are feeling, which is perfect.
  • The ending of this one is beautifully crafted. It ends with a good lesson and great character growth. Plus, it wraps the series in a perfect way.
  • No spoilers, but the side characters are well treated and well represented on this one. In the first two books our focus was, as it should be, on Morgan and Josh. But in this book there’s an opportunity to let some of the smaller characters shine and the authors let that happen.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Fans of the series, obviously. This one is a nice bow on the trilogy.
  • In general, if you like contemporary stories about relationships that feel real, this trilogy is recommended.

My Rating: 4 Stars
