What I Didn’t Like:
- Very little reminders about what happened in Book 1. This isn’t a huge problem, more a warning. If you’re not reading these back-to-back, at least take a beat to refresh your memory!
- I would’ve liked to see a bit more exploration into the depth of some of these characters with respect to each other. Nicholas, in particular, comes across as very flat and judgy. We never get to see the growth from him that I’d like. Of course, I would imagine I’m stepping on the toes of book 3 by saying this.
- Content warning: gore, death, explosions, and talk of self sacrifice.
What I Did Like:
- Although this is a THICK book, it doesn’t feel like it wastes your time on mundane details. Everything felt essential and valuable to the story being told. This is another well edited and well written installment in this series.
- This one picks up where you left off with the first book. Same great characters, same world, and of course same high stakes. I was sucked right back in and enthralled quickly.
- Superb ending, again. I thought I knew what to expect, I prepared myself for it, and then it still shocked me. What a journey!
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of well written fantasy with deep themes and big casts will love this series (start with Resurrection).
- Dystopian fans, this may not be the kind of book you gravitate toward but I just think you’ll adore it. The strong good vs evil vibes and the cast of characters just work!
My Rating: 5 Stars
- Again, I’d have no problem handing this series to ANYONE. It’s well written and superbly readable.
