2025 Book Review: Remember Me (Trilogy)

by Christopher Pike

YA Fantasy Thriller, 2010 by Simon Pulse, 789 Pages

Note: This book was originally published in the 1990s as three volumes. This is the collected trilogy bound together.

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Some minor inconsistencies. The biggest one was Shari constantly talking about her green eyes only to say “we both have blue eyes” at one point. Girl, what?
  • The sequels feel wildly different from the first book. In fact, the first one is the best (arguably ONLY) good book in the trilogy. It didn’t NEED 2 sequels. Plus, in those sequels, Shari is WILDLY selfish and thinks only of Shari (that’s a no spoilers way of saying it, but if you’ve read it you’ll get what I’m really saying).
  • The stories within the stories don’t really work. Some are too dry and they don’t have any obvious connections to the story. That makes them feel like an unnecessary side trip.

What I Did Like:

  • The mystery in the first book is solid! We get the timeline, the map, and the clues. It’s fascinating and wraps you right up. Plus, the way the first book ends is perfect. Enough answers to be satisfied but still with lingering questions.
  • Shari isn’t entirely likable. I say this as a positive because perfect characters can’t learn lessons and grow. Shari having flaws and being imperfect is part of her charm, most of the time.
  • The exploration of the meaning of life, purpose, and spirituality are a sort of unexpected surprise in this trilogy. I did like that they strayed from the “cookie cutter” line of thinking you’d expect and veered off in a different direction.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Thriller, mystery, or paranormal fans will appreciate book 1.

My Rating: 3 Stars

  • Remember Me by itself would be 4 stars. As a stand alone this one appeals to paranormal thriller fans or mystery readers. It’s YA but satisfyingly written to be unique and interesting. The sequels are 2 stars, with problems in character consistency. I compromised on the overall rating.
