2025 Book Review: The Women of Wild Hill

by Kirsten Miller

A Fantasy, 2025 by William Morrow, 368 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • The back and forth in the timeline and with different characters is a bit confusing at first. I will say it all comes together in a way that works, eventually.
  • If you don’t like your fantasy stories to have a down with the patriarchy vibe that feels a little too relevant, you may not like this one.
  • I wanted a tiny bit more explanation on Liam. It wasn’t about him and I wouldn’t change THAT but a tad more would’ve been helpful.

What I Did Like:

  • The development of the gift through the family is well written. You understand where it came from and how it moves through the family in a great way.
  • I adore these characters. If you’re attempting to have a realistic modern day witch, it’s only possible if you confront their insecurities about their gift(s) head on. This does a remarkable job of that. I understood what they were capable of and what that cost them in their personal lives.
  • The message of this one is well balanced and well delivered. Some readers might find it heavy handed but I felt like it was perfectly in line with what we’re seeing and experiencing and I loved that this was turned into such an obvious good vs bad concept that very few could argue with.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Witchy fantasy fans. This one has a good explanation and back story of the gifts and brings in multiple generations in a pleasing way.
  • Contemporary fans: specifically those who like down with the patriarchy who is ruining this world vibes. This is PACKED with that.

My Rating: 5 Stars

  • Well written, good message, solid characters.
