2025 Book Review: My Blade is Me

by Terrence Hart

A Historical Fiction, 2025 by Dalby Publishing Group, 345 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Content Warning: Sexual situations, sexual assault, violence.
  • I didn’t connect with any of the characters, which makes it very difficult to stay in the story. I found them to be a bit cliche and obvious, which is always frustrating.
  • The time jumps felt unnecessary. The story would’ve worked equally well told in chronological order without having to keep track of what year we were in. Plus it may have kept things from getting a little confusing in the beginning.

What I Did Like:

  • The historical elements were well done. You can tell there was careful attention paid to all aspects of this research and I found no missteps.
  • The soothsayer elements of this were fun. From the first moment this popped onto the page, it added a little something extra to the story that I wasn’t expecting.
  • The ending works. Satisfying and possible, two things that this story needed to stay rooted in the historical aspects.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Fans of historical fiction who appreciate accuracy in research above all else.

My Rating: 3 Stars
