A Mystery/Thriller, 2005 by CDS Books, 342 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- The book stays rooted in reality. Sometimes, in horror, readers expect a paranormal element. This is typically billed as a thriller because of that element missing, but call it a content warning if you’re looking for paranormal.
- Mostly flat characters. Many of them don’t add much to the story and, because of that, they’re pretty flat or cliche.
- The final twist was a bit predictable, especially if you read a lot of these kinds of books and know what to look for. It was definitely a Chekhov’s gun situation.
What I Did Like:
- This book is a perfect example of jumping right into the action and meeting your characters along the way. You just START at the exact moment you should and it goes FAST. Short chapters, real time carefully notated, and lots of things happening.
- Terrifying storyline. From the house itself to the unexpected surprises, this one packs a lot of danger. The action scenes are well written and add to the terror.
- Descriptive and well written. This one would make a decent action movie with the well written and atmospheric descriptions of the house.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of thrillers that move quickly and contain lots of action.
