A Mystery/Thriller, 2021 by Avon, 384 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- I didn’t love or relate to any of the characters, which can be problematic.
- The different POVs sounded very similar. In a multi-POV like this I prefer for them to have nuances in their language or speech patterns so you can almost start a chapter and just tell who is talking. You can’t do that here, they’re all the same.
- The middle of the book is very repetitive. The characters are lost and it drags the story out a bit while they repeat things. It’s intended to build tension, and it does, but the pace suffers for it.
What I Did Like:
- The opening chapter is compelling. You are invested in the danger and the mystery right away, you want to know who this is. That was a smart move.
- The ending delivers surprises and shocks. All things are explained and most of it will surprise you. Plus, the ending moves quickly!
- The writing of the deaf character is well done. Either the author has experience with hearing loss or the research was well done.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of a thriller with twists they didn’t figure out. This one is packed with twists, at least 1 is bound to shock you!
