A Horror, 2022 by Blood Bound Books, 226 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Content Warning: graphic violence, death, implied sexual assault
- Slow moving plot. There’s a lot of moments here where the story lags a bit and it costs us in pacing.
- Cliche characters. Everyone sort of fits into a cookie cutter mold, no one did anything that broke them from it. That leaves this one feeling a lot like a story you’ve heard before.
What I Did Like:
- Every time I thought I knew where the story was going, it went off the tracks a little. I love when stories can surprise me so this was great. Plus, it still feels grounded and realistic, even when it’s being unpredictable.
- Bastian is a good character. In a cast full of cliche characters, he pushes back against his mold a little and that makes him interesting.
- The ending works. It picks up the pace, ties up the story, and satisfies the reader.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of thrillers that are a bit dark will like this one best.
