2025 Book Review: Everyone in the Group Chat Dies

by L.M. Chilton

A Mystery/Thriller, 2025 by Head of Zeus, 343 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Some obvious red herrings (popular in the genre) made me roll my eyes. Who’s falling for this stuff?
  • I didn’t love that the book played on the “addicted to social media for likes” trope with the younger generation. In general I’m not a fan of putting any generation into a pigeon hole like that.
  • Most of the deaths in the book (of which there are many) are glossed over too quickly. No time is paid on acknowledging the emotions with it or the details of the deaths. They’re too quick.

What I Did Like:

  • Fantastic opener. This manages to pull you right in quickly. First there’s the opening group text, which gets your attention, but then the banter between the roommates just seals the deal. I knew early on that this was going to be GREAT.
  • Kirby is a solid character. Recovering from some tension at her job, lost and sort of flailing with who she is, and leaning into a nothing existence. She’s relatable and realistic.
  • The ending is satisfying. You get answers, they make sense in the broader sense of the book, and it works.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Mystery fans who like no one is safe and everyone is a suspect type vibes.

My Rating: 4 Stars
