What I Didn’t Like:
- I don’t love Gwen in this one. I wanted to see that depth in her that we got in the first one but that was all gone. We were left with a sort of flat character who doesn’t resemble our complex friend at all.
- While I feel like we had some answers from this one, most things carry to book 3. Maybe have that one ready if you need answers. I also wanted more from the final battle here. It almost felt anticlimactic. Hopefully that’s addressed in the 3rd book.
- The multiple POVs all read very similar. There’s not much to their voices that makes them stand apart. You can’t always tell whose chapter you happen to be in without checking.
What I Did Like:
- Again, the battles are well written. They’re easy to picture and graphic, which I appreciate. There were even a few moments where you could laugh a little at things that were happening.
- Banter between the characters is well written. There’s plenty of opportunity to capture someone’s personality in the way they talk to others.
- The lead in for the third book is well written. Your interest is piqued and you definitely want to keep going.
Who Should Read This One:
- Fans of the first one, obviously.
- If you’re interested in stories about demons and angels, this might be a good sort of intro to that world and mythology.
