2025 Book Review: The Death of Honor

by Lyra Thorsson

A Science Fiction, 2021 by FoxTales Press, 392 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Content Warning: There are a few sexually explicit scenes as well as one that is basically sexual assault. There are also suicidal thoughts. Proceed with caution.
  • There’s words in other languages sprinkled throughout the text. Attention is paid to the fact that the POV characters speak multiple languages. However, most readers likely don’t. There are no translations. Not a major issue, but something worth mentioning.
  • The ending felt a bit anticlimactic. The villain felt too easy to conquer. Then again, things are not always as they seem in sequels.

What I Did Like:

  • Rebecca is an interesting character. She’s obviously flawed, which I like, but she’s also no-nonsense and surrounds herself with people (ok, person) who accept her flaws instead of trying to change her. Loved that!
  • Found family. This definitely seems like it will be a found family trilogy, the foundation is all set here in book 1. Even better, they seem to be (at least partially) a reluctant found family. That’s always great!
  • There’s a potential here to focus on mental health and healing in subsequent books. I appreciate all the backfilling happening in this book for that to blossom and grow.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Fans of flawed characters taking the world on their shoulders will like this one.

My Rating: 3 Stars
