A Mystery/Thriller, 2023 by Atria Books, 340 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Content Warning: assault, descriptions of PTSD, depression
- There are some holes/questions about this premise. No spoilers but there are some obvious things they don’t think of when planning these “perfect” crimes.
- If you read a lot of mystery/thrillers and are looking for twists you may beat a few of them to the punch. That being said, I’d be surprised if you had them all figured out.
What I Did Like:
- The way Ruth’s PTSD, specifically, is written is a beautiful thing. By that, of course, I mean it’s terrifying and cloyingly real. It steals your breath with her. Accurate and the sign of a beautiful writer.
- Definitely packs the twists and surprises. There’s a lot of moving pieces here, a lot to figure out. That’s always fun in a mystery/thriller like this.
- I actually loved the ending. I feel like it went just far enough to answer questions and give closure.
- This won’t affect my rating but is worth mentioning: the audiobook narrator is AMAZING.
Who Should Read This One:
- Mystery/thriller fans who like to be shocked and surprised. This one is well written.
