A Mystery/Thriller, Independently Published in 2025, 446 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Content Warning: this book deals with grief in a visceral way, also alcoholism, prostitution, drug use
- There may have been some continuity errors in this one. I’d have to go back and read a second time to be absolutely sure, but I think there were some minor inconsistencies in the timeline. At the very least, there are questions.
- The ending leaves a lot unanswered. Normally I’m a fan of this style ending because it leaves you thinking. In this case, I’m not as sure. It feels almost frustrating to have some of these lingering questions answered.
What I Did Like:
- The opening paints grief in a relatable and real way. It’s raw and painful, but realistic.
- The main character is relatable in a hard way. You’re watching this guy spiral and you can’t stop him. It’s heartbreaking … but at the same time, you understand why he’s doing it.
- The story unfolds in a good way to add to the tension and mystery. The intention of the story is to showcase grief and the mistakes people make when they’re not thinking clearly because of grief. For that, it’s well done.
Who Should Read This One:
- Readers who want something raw, almost painful, and thrilling.
