2026 Book Review: Zero Days

by Ruth Ware

A Mystery/Thriller, 2023 by Scout Press, 336 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Some hard to believe moments relating to injuries, luck, or technology. Not too many, but they are there.
  • A few of the twists were a bit obvious. I was ahead of Jack and waiting for her to catch up.
  • There are a lot of tech savvy pieces of information in this one. I could see some of that going over the heads of some readers (heck, I even had to ask my tech expert about one term) and there’s not a lot of time spent explaining the terms (because it would be unrealistic to think these characters would need that explanation) so I can see some readers thinking that was a bit much.

What I Did Like:

  • The opening scene is intense, which is perfect! The banter between Gabe and Jack is the right blend of funny and caring, and this sets their characters up perfectly.
  • The grief is so well written it’s visceral. From the numbness to the guilt and anger, it’s just raw and painful but so important to the story and the character. Too many times, I think, books get grief wrong. This one absolutely doesn’t.
  • The overall concept of the story is well done. I was drawn into the mystery, wrapped up in the world of pen testing, and rooting for Jack the entire time. A fun and thrilling ride!

Who Should Read This One:

  • Thriller fans, this one is intense and has a lot for you to love! Recommended.

My Rating: 4 Stars
