A Horror, 2025 by Sinister Inx, 269 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Content Warning: graphic death and gore.
- This could’ve been longer and I still would’ve eaten it up. As it is you have ZERO answers about this mysterious illness and I could see spending time on that. Future books, Tom?
- There are some parts that come off as far-fetched, but arguably that’s par for the course in this genre.
What I Did Like:
- I appreciate the way this jumped into horror so quickly. You get a couple of chapters of normal bliss before the rug is pulled out from under you. It’s shocking in the best way.
- The characters are wonderful, which is always a problem in horror because no one is safe. There are some HEARTBREAKING scenes in this one (that hospital was rough) and some that are shocking. The fact that you can connect with them all so fast is a testament to how well they’re written.
- The pacing is perfect. It starts quick and moves even faster. It reads as desperate and dangerous, which it absolutely should be. Perfect pacing.
- The ending is perfect. Did I want more? Yes, absolutely. But for this book and this story, that ending is perfect. It’s rough and broken and apocalyptic but it’ll stay with you for a long time.
Who Should Read This One:
- Horror fans. This is intentionally terrifying and has the right amount of gore. It’s well done and will appeal to horror fans, for sure.
- Zombie fans. This is NOT a typical zombie story and that is ALWAYS a good thing. It’s original, fresh, and well written.
My Rating: 4 Stars
- Look, this book is near perfect but if you don’t read zombies as horror it’s not for you. But if you do … highly recommended.
