YA Romance, 2024 by Viking Books, 384 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- The voice felt “off” somehow. Almost unrealistic for a YA novel. It does get a bit better in the middle but the beginning was rough.
- The romance with Xander felt forced, especially on Gemma’s end. I just didn’t buy it. In fact, this forced a love triangle that felt unbelievable on all sides.
- Some repetition of phrases and ideas. It wasn’t done to be annoying but it sort of was.
What I Did Like:
- The treasure hunt was great fun! I was worried in the beginning because I was figuring it out too fast but the clues got harder as it went on. So fun!
- Daphne’s jokes were great relief. She’s a minor character and some of the jokes (that’s what she said) are cliche but some are great.
- Loved the ending of the treasure hunt. We learn some cool things about Gemma’s grandfather that really make the story sing. Believable and well done.
Who Should Read This One:
- If you like treasure hunt style books and light, clean, YA romance this is your niche.
