A Mystery/Thriller, 2025 by Poisoned Pen Press, 368 Pages
What I Didn’t Like:
- Lots of overused cliche phrases, some even obnoxiously misused. Whether it’s lazy writing or a quirk of an annoying character, I won’t weigh in on.
- Cliche characters. They all feel like cookie cutters of generic characters lifted from countless other books or movies of the genre. There’s nothing special or memorable about them.
- You know how, sometimes, you realize there’s something an author does so you start looking for it? Well I knew things would not be what they seem so I was looking (I admit) and I caught all the twists before they were revealed. For a thriller, this is a problem. But I did admit it was kind of my fault for looking.
What I Did Like:
- The twists do work and they are entertaining. They make sense and everything slots together well, even with the complex timeline.
- Solid ending. You get answers but nothing feels over explained. It’s a great way to wrap it up.
- Fast paced. The book cruises along with little or no distractions from the main events and plenty to hold your interest. Quick read because you won’t want to put it down.
Who Should Read This One:
- Thriller fans who like fast paced easy reads with lots of twists.
