2026 Book Review: Valentine’s Day

by Josie Jaffrey

A Fantasy, 2024 by Silver Sun Books, 362 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • By this point I think I’m almost disappointed in the will-they-won’t-they aspect of the relationship with Drake. I’ve made my choice, Jack, get with the program.
  • This one starts, understandably, with a Jack who is basically in severe depression. That is hard to read.
  • Not enough answers. This one cuts off at a point that leaves you, essentially, in the same place you started. It’s as frustrating for the reader as it is for Jack. You want more solved! Especially since we have to wait until June for the next installment.

What I Did Like:

  • I still adore Jack as a character. The arc she’s gone through as she makes mistakes and learns is well crafted and understandable. My favorite kind of main character is flawed and realistic and Jack is that, even in a book about vampires.
  • I also adore Killian. He’s stubborn and flawed but he’s also open and honest with Jack. You get to see this side of him that’s vulnerable and I love that. I swear if these two don’t get a happily ever after when this series is done, I’m gonna riot!
  • Intriguing vampire lore. This series has been great for unlocking interesting twists in lore and this book is no exception. There’s layers here that have been building this whole series and I’m looking forward to seeing how they play out. Really, if you’re a vampire fan you need this entire series. From how they treat rule breakers to how they bond with each other, it’s been a JOURNEY getting to this point.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Fans of the series, obviously. This is a bit harder to read because it starts with Jack in a serious depression but it honors the series arcs well and does add something to the story.
  • Urban fantasy fans, this series is a must read. High stakes, solid addition to the lore of vampires, and well written.
  • Paranormal romance fans. This series has excellent banter, he falls first, some spicy scenes, and even fake dating in the early books.

My Rating: 5 Stars

  • This series still has mass appeal. Watch the content warnings in this one and don’t read them out of order, this is book 4 (of 6 planned).
