2026 Book Review: The Complete History (and Fistory) of Underspace

by Rufus Penzance and Howard Long

MG Fantasy, 2025 by ManBuyCow, 268 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Repeatedly uses though when meaning through, which is annoying but possible to figure out.
  • Mildly predictable, although that’s common in middle grade books.
  • Some unanswered questions. Most importantly, what did our dear Henrietta do about school?

What I Did Like:

  • Great dialogue. There’s some funny moments in this one as characters from Underspace try and explain things to Henrietta. My favorite, of course, was Dagenham. Wonderland vibes, for sure.
  • Adorable mystery. You chase down all the clues with Henrietta and have lots of silly fun while doing it!
  • Satisfying ending. As far as the mystery goes, the ending is satisfying. Enough answers to be happy but, technically, the door is left open for a sequel someday.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Middle grade readers who enjoy fun vibes (think Wonderland) in their fantasy stories.

My Rating: 4 Stars
