2026 Book Review: Mist in the Willows

by Lucy Linne

A Horror, 2025 by Skulls & Cupcakes, 389 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • Some grammatical or typographical errors. Nothing extreme. I could always figure out the meaning quickly and they didn’t hinder my understanding.
  • The setup is a bit long. I assume this is because this is the first in a series so we’re setting up for a good, long run. But I wanted to skip past some of the early stuff.
  • Her family is the absolute worst. I couldn’t stand the grandfather and then the Dad and Stepmom showed up and things got so much worse. What an awful group of people.

What I Did Like:

  • Good vibe early on. With this main character you know you’re not getting all the information and things are being held back to release slowly. Not enough to make it an unreliable narrator situation, but enough to make her mysterious.
  • The ending is great. It brings emphasis to the paranormal elements, makes minor characters have more agency, and sets up for a sequel.
  • The paranormal elements are well done. Intriguing, a little scary, and just vague enough to be compelling. We seemed to get deeper into the paranormal as the story went on which leaves me hopeful the series will continue that way.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Paranormal fans who want realistic main characters dealing with supernatural situations.
  • This one is classified as horror and, realistically, I don’t think it crossed that line. I’d call it a paranormal thriller. Of course, it’s always possible the series will cross into horror at some point.

My Rating: 3 Stars
