2026 Book Review: A Touch of Darkness

by Scarlett St Clair

A Romance, 2019 by Bloom Books, 379 Pages

What I Didn’t Like:

  • The spicy scenes had a weird vibe. They’re graphic but not, which I’m aware makes no sense. I think it’s because instalove is not my favorite and this utilized that in a weird way. Plus, it’s very quick a lot of times. Like the actual spicy act is carried out quickly. You get what I’m saying.
  • For someone raised by a Goddess with knowledge of the Gods, there seems to be a lot of missing knowledge in Persephone’s brain. Of course that could be because some of it is tragically incorrect, missing, or ignored.
  • Hades is normally a favorite. I am fully ready to accept there is a soft side to Hades. But I also think his dark side was WAY underplayed in this one. This didn’t feel like Hades and that was sad.

What I Did Like:

  • This sort of modernized version is so great! I loved how it felt accurate for a myth and yet still also valid today. Easy to imagine versions of this playing out now.
  • The main characters had good chemistry, for sure. The humanized scene in the kitchen was specifically adorable. As a romance, so cute.
  • This version had a bonus scene and a from Hades perspective scene that are well done and add to the story. I would recommend that version.

Who Should Read This One:

  • Romance fans who like spice but not necessarily dark.
  • People who like the idea of Ancient Greek legends but maybe aren’t die hard fans, some inconsistencies would bother such fans.

My Rating: 3 Stars
